This image demonstrates a sophisticated interplay of shapes and contrast. The composition guides the viewer’s gaze, gradually revealing the creative angles of the exterior compartment that encloses an interior stairway. The reflection on the holding tank in the lower right adds another layer of visual interest. While the image initially appears flat, intersecting hard lines in the lower center underscore the intentional manipulation of toned shapes, enhancing depth and emphasizing the structure’s form.

The term "designed photographs," as described by the director of a major stock photography firm, has been applied to my work. For this image, I intentionally composed it off-center and out of square. The varied angles, pipes, shadows, and shapes were incorporated to introduce visual tension and an impression of imbalance in the overall architectural design. The structural elements of multiple buildings, bridges, and overhead pipes provided a visual framework that fostered a new level of creative exploration.

The composition draws attention through the luminous reflection against a storage tank. An additional design feature is the rack that extends from the tanks into an open space, creating a sense of intentional vacancy. The leading lines formed by the walls contribute to the depth and emphasize the vertical dimension of the building, enhancing its visual impact.

For me, the most iconic of Sheeler’s images of the Ford plant at River Rouge is titled “Criss Crossed Conveyers.” I wasn’t aiming to imitate Sheeler’s work; rather, I was inspired and motivated by his achievements. My “Criss Crossed Conveyers” doesn’t replicate Sheeler’s approach, but instead serves as a guide, drawing the viewer’s eye into the actual process of limestone extraction at the site.

Thanks must be conveyed to Stephanie from Minerals Technologies, Will, Dan, Kyle, and the Specialty Minerals Plant Manager, Chuck Knox, and a few unnamed employees of Specialty Minerals for their onsite support and kindness. Most of all, I am grateful for the wisdom and creative vision of Minerals Technologies Inc., in approving this project.
