Marsala, Sicily

Considered one of Sicily’s top wine producing regions, this western coastal city known worldwide for Marsala wine.

The city of Marsala was like much the rest of Sicily, a visual combination of positives and negative, wealth and poverty, sights, smells and sounds all unique to my American eye, nose and ears.

I like the ruggedness of Sicily, the sort of Wild West approach which for me is very different then the balance of many regions of Italy I have visited and photographed.

Marsala, Sicily

Once I entered under the arch, to my right was the streetlamp, posted last week. As I walked East, a new gated, but open enclave was visible.

The gates locked open lead into a lonely, simple plaza, a fountain caught my attention despite the lack of water, running water, the area was on interest to me.

There was certain business about the plaza, lonely and busy at the same time – much like Sicily, a contradiction. Leaving I turned right and past a a common sculpture, a lone bench seeking the warmth of a human. I did not share my warmth, the bench shared it’s designed beauty with me and now with you.
