The Window and the Candle
The Window and the Candle
While in Tuscany, leading a photographic workshop, the muse of Italy is overwhelming. It was difficult not to “burst” my images, I forced myself to be highly selective in what I captured. I was careful is selecting the images that would forever be my memory of those magical and in many was spiritual moments. I would rather not have the memory if the image that defines that moment of memory was not is not the very best of what I can provide.
One of the definitions of Luminism is defined as “expressing the nuances of light and shadow, atmosphere, projecting serenity and timelessness”. A part of American impressionism, the art form is at the heart of the Hudson River School of painting. Part of the painting concept of this movement is to conceal the strokes of the brush, eliminate the texture oil painting can provide and allow the light to “shine” through as pure as possible.
Luminism in photography has been part of my photographic life and I did not even know it – now I do. I now have a new and more exacting definition of fine art photography.
